The 3RD NATIONAL INTEGRATED Eco-Waste Management Exhibition at Quezon City Circle

The 3rd National Integrated Eco-Waste Management Exhibition opened last January 26, 2017 at 10 am at the Quezon City Memorial Circle with the theme “Engaging Response to the Changing Environment”. Senator Cynthia Villa keynotes the four-day event.

The four-day Exhibition spearheaded by Director Eli Eldifonso of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-NCR (DENR) showcased initiatives, best practices, and emerging technologies. Several activities like lectures and presentations by experts on varied subjects of interest were also conducted.

The Environment Summit is aiming to help shed light on the environmental and ecological issues that disrupt the processes of Mother Nature and the creatures living within it. In light of the celebration of the Waste Management Act anniversary and the Zero Waste Month every January, the summit seeks to reach out and educate the public on the destruction of the environment and what they can do to help alleviate this situation.

Along with raising awareness, the E-Summit worked with government agencies and non-government organizations to urge the public, especially the youth, to participate in effective solid waste management, healthier lifestyle programs, and other initiatives that would help save the environment and promote a healthy way of life.

Officials of the DENR-NCR, Environmental Management Bureau, Climate Change Commission, National Solid Waste Management Commission, Metro-Manila Development Authority and other national agencies and local government units, as well as CEOs and senior managers of private companies participating as exhibitors also attended the opening day of the event.

The following were the exciting activities held during the summit:

January 28- E-Concert with True Faith and Sponge Cola
January 29- ECO Bike Ride “Padyak Para sa Kalikasan”
                     Zumba “Dance For Your Health”

PhilYes is all about Changing the eCommerce Landscape

As a project manager, I always see to it that everything including my personal life is planned accordingly. As a mom, I have this habit of making sure that I plan out with my kids their future.

Try asking kids today about what they want to be when they grow up... their responses will pretty much be jobs or profession that they usually see on popular media or dictated professions by their parents or people around them. Rachel Tolentino on the other hand is different, she vividly recalls that her answer to this question was just a simple - “I want to clean, Pasig river” ... for someone to answer that is indeed amazing.

Needless to say, Rachel is showing early signs of a non-conformist views early in her life which she definitely inherited from her mom. The things that she wants to do are very much different from what her parents expect from her but never once did it became a concern for her loving parents. They have supported all of her decisions in life.

Who is Rachel Tolentino?

Rachel is the Chief Executive Officer of PhilYes, the Philippine’s premier B2B online platform that levels-up the buying and selling experience in the country. According to her, “My parents taught us to be independent and encouraged us to follow our passions and interests in life”. “We enjoy the full trust of our parents, that’s why it was just incumbent upon us to not breach that trust - and I think the pressure to really do well in what you do is even greater because they really support you full time unconditionally.” Rachel adds. At present,

What is PhilYes?

PhilYes is an emerging eCommerce company that Rachel co-founded with her close friends in 2014. They are a young organization who dreams of revolutionizing the eCommerce landscape for business owners, small and medium enterprises in the country. Their intent is to facilitate the growth of local businesses by maximizing technology.

True to its promise, PhilYes currently manages close to ten million pesos worth of daily transactions, deals and contracts closed in its online platform. “The response we are receiving from our local partners and members are overwhelming. When you see your efforts are coming into fruition, and you hear encouraging words from your peers, it’s an indication that you are on the right track.” Rachel exclaims.

This young hands-on CEO is not new to corporate leadership. Rachel built her career in the family owned Autohauz, a Kia car distributorship, while still a college student in Ateneo, she was already working as management trainee, eventually went full time to work for the Autohauz doing sales, marketing and later on acting as Chief Finance Officer. “My stint in Autohauz made me realized how difficult and challenging it was to source, maintain and deal with different suppliers. It was not easy to survey for quotes for services or goods you need for your business. We area  small organization and definitely we don’t have a huge procurement department that will do the dirty work for us.” Rachel says. “This is one of the pain points that help build the initial framework of PhilYes. We want to address efficiency for buyers and at the same time provide scalability and reach for sellers.” Rachel expounds.

As a leader Rachel considers herself as a “Cool Boss”. “I don’t see the need to instill fear to my subordinates, it was never my style.” Rachel said. “I guess my style is just to be really open and honest to them. I’m particular with deadlines and my team knows I’m really serious about work. And I have long spoused the open-door policy to everyone in our office where people can talk to me about anything without pretenses about ranks and titles.” Rachel explains. “I believe in this day and age, collaboration and constant thirst for innovation are key to ensure that your company would stay relevant.” She adds

At 29, Rachel is just starting to achieve her dreams in life: pursuing her eCommerce advocacy for business owners and the same time building her own family. We would hear more from her as her journey has just started.
